            Skateboard decks

When looking for a suitable skateboard, there are several options. For example, you can go for a complete skateboard, where everything is already assembled. In addition, you can assemble your own skateboard and choose all the parts separately. An intermediate solution is a semi-complete skateboard where you choose a truckset (trucks with wheels and bearings together) and a deck.

            Width

The width of your skateboard depends on your shoe size. The bigger your shoe size, the wider your skateboard. This is not a fixed rule, so it does not mean that it is impossible to skate a narrow skateboard with a large shoe size.

In general, we follow the following table:

            Shoe size: EU -40 : 7.75 - 8.0
            Shoe size: EU 40 - 45: 8.0 - 8.375
            Shoe size: EU +45 : 8.375 - 8.5

            Structure / Shape

Usually a deck consists of 7 layers of maple wood, pressed and glued together in a certain shape.

Most decks have a popsicle shape where the nose and tail are almost identical.
There are also many shaped decks where the nose and tail of the deck are different. Therefore, there are many different shapes available.

            Concave

Besides the different shapes, decks can also differ in terms of concave or curvature.

Mellow concave decks have a slight curvature and provide stability.
Medium concave decks have medium curvature.
Steep concave decks have a strong curvature and is more suitable for fliptricks.

When do you need a new skateboard?

Unfortunately, skateboards don't last forever. A skateboard simply undergoes wear and tear. Your deck may be cracked or broken, weakening its structure.

In addition, moisture can cause you to lose the pop or jump power from your deck. You can hear this when you tap the end of the skateboard on the ground. When you hear a dull sound, some or all of the pop or jumping power has been lost.

Besides moisture, chips, particles of wood coming loose on the nose and tail can also cause your deck to need replacement. In addition, you can injure yourself by protruding splinters.

Also a razor tail, the phenomenon where your back of the skateboard is sharp due to repeated braking on the tail, can cause your skateboard to need replacement. This gives you less control over your board and your pop or jump power is not as good.
